Top tips for timeless interiors

Like any form of design, creating beautiful interiors is subjective and entirely personal, but here are some of my favorite tips that you may find useful...
1. Reflect on your personal narrative:
Choose art or collect objects that tell your story or remind you of a specific time, place, holiday or emotion.
2. Be Intentional:
Let your space evolve over time. Rushed decisions often lead to fleeting satisfaction.
3. Create Focal Points with Art:
Use art to create meaningful focal points that evoke emotion, spark conversation and tell a story of who you are.
4. Add texture to create depth:
Layer textures like velvet, wool, leather, or woven materials for visual and tactile interest. Incorporate rugs, throws, and cushions to add warmth and dimension.
5. Layer lighting:
Combine different lighting types: ambient (overhead), task (reading lamps), and accent (spotlights for art or décor). Use dimmers to control the mood and make the space more versatile.
6. Invest in anchor pieces:
Splurge on high-impact items like a statement sofa, bed, or artwork. These are focal points that set the tone for the room. Balance investment pieces with budget-friendly accessories.
7. Mix styles and eras:
Combine modern pieces with vintage or heirloom items for a curated, lived-in look. Avoid matchy-matchy sets; a blend of different styles creates more character
8. Prioritise comfort:
Beautiful design should also feel good to live in. Opt for cosy seating, soft rugs, and warm lighting to make the space inviting.
